Don’t Be Stingy, Share A Verse

ScriptureShare a Bible verse – that’s what I asked my Sunday School class to do, and many came prepared today with a verse (or verses) that they found meaningful.  One friend, who battled alcoholism, spoke of how 1 Corinthians 10:14 not only changed his life, but is a verse he still leans on during times of temptation (No temptation has seized you except what is common to man.  And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.  But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.)  Another class member, a law enforcement officer, shared how verses from the 23rd Psalm stayed with him during a shoot-out (Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me…).  It was uplifting going around the room and hear how God used certain verses to speak to individuals, and I truly believe that several class members left with a new verse to add to their arsenal, I know I did.

AND NOW I POSE THE SAME QUESTION TO THE READER OF THIS BLOG?  IS THERE A MEANINGFUL VERSE IN YOUR LIFE OR SIMPLY ONE YOU CALL YOUR FAVORITE?  IF SO, POST A COMMENT WITH THE VERSE AND A BRIEF NOTE OF WHAT MAKES IT SO MEANINGFUL?  SO WHETHER YOU’RE A FRIEND, A FAMILY MEMBER, OR A STRANGER CRUISING THE INTERNET, WHY NOT TAKE THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT A PASSAGE OF SCRIPTURE AND SHARE IT?  I’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU, AND PERHAPS A FELLOW READER WILL ADD YOUR VERSE TO THEIR ARSENAL.

  1. Hebrews 13:20-21 “Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

To me, this is the Gospel summed up in 2 verses. It reminds me that He has already done (is doing) the work. I just need to follow His direction and the end result will be glorious.

  2. I love this verse and have it attached to all my outgoing emails!!!

    Jeremiah 32:17
Lord God you have made the heavens & the earth by your great power & outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you!!!!!

We serve a big God and nothing-absolutly nothing is to difficult for Him to handle!!!

  3. Proverbs 11:17 is a simple verse but one of my favorites: “The meriful man doeth good to his own soul:but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.” We know our own soul is nourished when we are kind and it is destroyed when we are cruel . I have a saying I love to repeat to myself often …” Be the kind of women that when your feet hit the ground each morning the devil says, “Oh NO, she’s up. “

  4. Isiah 43:1 “But now, thus says the Lord that created you, O Jacob, and He that formed you, O Israel, Fear not; for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name; you are Mine.”

“called” in Hebrew is the word Qara which means to roar, to call aloud, to name specifically for a specific purpose.

Not only has God called Israel and will redeem Israel, but He has called my name, Katie, before the foundations of the world were ever laid. In fact, he roared my name for a specific purpose! He declared that I was His…always gives me goosebumps!

  5. Hebrews 12:2 (NIV) Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Jesus endured the cross out of JOY. That JOY set before him? US. You and me. We were and are His JOY! Isn’t that amazing?!?!?!?!?

  6. 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

My hope is eternal, kept by the power of God allowing me to live a life of reckless abandonment consumed by glorifying Him.

  7. I heard this in a song, and I claimed it as one I truly agree with!

“Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”

    Psalm 84:10

  8. Luke 14:22-23 “Sir; the servant said, what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.” Then the master told his servant, “Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.”

I feel these two verses send an important message to us (his servants) and best represents the mission of our Church (Rock Bridge, Dalton). As long as one person does not have a relationship with Jesus or a church home, our mission is incomplete.
